The Second Coming
Hope, Love, Joy, Peace
We have entered the Advent season. A season where we celebrate the words, Hope, Love, Joy, and Peace. Each week, during the season of Advent, we will talk about one of these four words. But what does Advent mean? The word “ADVENT” means coming or arrival. The focus of the entire Advent seasons is on preparation for the birth of Christ in Bethlehem, refection on the presence of Christ in our daily lives, and anticipation of the return of Christ as the soon and coming king! So Advent is far more than thinking back to the birth of the Christ Child. It is celebrating the truth that God became flesh so we could be reconciled to the Father today and spend eternity with the Father when Christ returns.
Advent also symbolizes the spiritual journey of each of us as individuals and all of us as a congregation. We will affirm that Christ has come, that He is present in the world today, and that He will come again in power. This realization should affect the way we live our lives daily and not just during Advent. We live in between the times of Christ’s coming and Christ’s coming again. Now, we are called to be faithful stewards of what is entrusted to us as His people.
As the church celebrates God breaking into history as a baby; and as we anticipate a future consummation of the church and the bridegroom in the days to come, may we live in this advent season with the Hope that Jesus came and will one day return. With the Love of Christ as he took on flesh to die for sinners like us. With Joy for our salvation that came as a baby and will return as King of kings and Lord of lords. And with Peace knowing that there is nothing in all creation that can separate us from the Love of Christ. May Christmas be more than a story of the past but a season of what is to come!
In His Love, Pastor Aaron
